Woodlands - Wednesday 16th October 2024

Woodlands Manor - 9:30pm
Today, the heavy rain set in and was relentless - it was just non stop!  It did not, however, dampen our spirits and we were out and about in it all day, obviously with the correct gear, and have all had a blast.  It really is wonderful to see each child embrace every opportunity and put their heart into things in an energetic and determined way.
Groups 1,3 and 5 headed over to the woodlands and waterfalls of Talybont.  Climbing up the hillside and marvelling at the shear force of the river water and the amazing waterfalls was astounding; the extra water due to the heavy rain made them even more impressive.  We visited a disused railway line tunnel, which to enter needed wading through a massive pool of water (over the knees for adults and therefore higher for the children).  Once we'd travelled through the tunnel, we grouped up for the return journey - with no lights on; a stick was used against the wall as a guide and each group bunched together with a child leading.  Good communication and grit was needed for this task! Group 4 headed down to the on site jungle gym and every child excelled.  The trust and kindness they showed each other was palpable and the 'experts' on each tree station were encouraging and used excellent encouragement.  Group 2 headed deep underground to Eglwys Faen Cave network and had an awesome time navigating the different sections.  This included an impressive structure called the 'Cheese Grater', where after squeezing through the rock sideways, there was a massive slide like rock into water.  It truly was a wet n wild Wednesday for all!
Cake featured heavily again today, and the jam sponge after our curry dinner went down a storm!  There was not a crumb left in the building!  Tomorrow looks to be a brighter day weather wise (I don't think any more rain could be in the sky after yesterday!) and we are looking forward to our final full day at Woodlands!
Over n out for now - G'night!
