Woodlands Update - Thursday 16th October 2025
The sun has shone today! 😀
We’ve had a fabulous final last full day! 😀😀😀
The baked beans on toast for breakie set us up nicely for our day of exciting activities. Groups 3 and 4 had a super time in the beautiful caves of Porth Yr Ogof and also the Eglwys Faen cave network which was just as dramatic outside the cave as it was in. The stunning Black Mountain scenery overlooking Crickhowell was wonderful to survey. In addition to climbing and squeezing through tight gaps in the cave, we learned about the how the cave was built, the structure of the limestone rocks and how, a few hundred years ago, local people used it as a meeting place and church.
Group1 had a splashingly marvellous time on the canal, learning new skills and working well together to navigate themselves on rather a lengthy journey. Zipping down the canoe into the water at the end, although rather chilly, was such fun! Group 2 enjoyed jungle gymming it on site, and goodness did those children enjoy zipping down the zip wire. They were fabulous on the high wires and were incredibly supportive and encouraging of others. Everytime we passed one of the tree leaders, they asked us for a Google Review of their service. Lots of them scored 5/5 ... some even 7/5! They were superb.
After a scrummy dinner of pasta bolognese with garlic bread and salad followed by Viennetta (80's flashback!), we packed up the house and sorted things for the next day. We then settled to a movie and some games and art and then enjoyed our final hot chocolate before heading up to bed.
Your children have been really excellent; they have all made great progress and they shone all week. They have shown resilience, determination and amazing teamwork. They have grown in confidence, further developed independence and (you’ll also be pleased to hear) they are cracking at tidying their rooms! They are all fabulous children and it has been a privilege to bring them away. We are incredibly proud of them all. We are also very proud of our school staff – they have worked tirelessly to support the children in every capacity this week. A huge thank you to Mrs Dowe, Mrs Reaney, Ms Maskell, Mrs Fifield, Ms Guthrie and Mrs Bethel.
We are all off up and down mountains tomorrow, putting our newly developed map reading skills to the test and enjoying the gorgeous Welsh scenery. Following this, we will then be saying our goodbyes to the Woodlands centre and their amazing staff at about 3:00pm. We should be back at around 6:30pm (keep an eye on your phones please - we will ping a text if we are earlier or later than expected!) And then, you are in for a real treat this weekend – get ready for some amazing tales of awesome adventures - sliding down canoes, going deep underground in phenomenal caves, going high overground on climbing walls, night hiking and sitting on hay bails. listening to owls and watching flitting, zipping through the trees and much, much more. Enjoy every minute!
This is the 2025 Woodlands Crew signing off for the final time. Over n out!
