Woodlands Manor - 10:00pm

All is pretty much silent in the great manor house after our somewhat unexpected day travelling across to Glasbury-on-Wye.

The journey was going so well - we were making good time, we loved crossing the bridge into Wales, we had a good stop at the services, the biscuits and squash (...and staff lattes from Costa) were tasty, and then when our coach tried to exit the services, well, it couldn't.  Something was not right!  The silver lining was that we were at the service station and so we went back in and made the best of a not so great situation.  We played games, coloured, read books, did puzzles, played table football, ate lunch, the staff quaffed more lattes, and a couple of hours later a new bus arrived to take us on the final leg of the journey.  Whilst it certainly was not ideal, the children were really super, and they recognised that problems in life do occur, but it is how one handles them that is important.

Having arrived later than hoped, our afternoon was somewhat condensed, but despite this, it was busy!  We met our instructors, became familiar with the house and grounds, talked about the week's aims and expectations, and we also sorted out our kit.

After a scrummy dinner of goujons, chips and beans followed by crumble and custard, we togged up for a night hike.  We went up a mountain... and back down again.  It was interesting to experience the night time atmosphere, and at the top of the mountain, the torches were turned off for us to appreciate the peace and quiet and the natural surroundings.

The children really have been great after an unusual first day.  We are all off on our different activities tomorrow, some on site and others out and about.  The weather looks to be non-too shabs too!  Tune in tomorrow to hear what we've been up to!

Night night - over n out for now!
