Visit to The Porch Day Centre

During Harvest time, we decided, as a school to support The Porch Day Centre in Oxford, by donating non-perishable foods. The Porch provides day-long support for homeless and vulnerably housed people wanting to move forward in their lives.

Founded by the All Saints Sisters of the Poor in 1986, The Porch has become a place of welcome, friendship and encouragement for hundreds of homeless men and women over the years. The project has since grown into an independent charity with its own staff. It is the only Oxford day centre open six days a week. It provides around 200 people a year with an opportunity to move towards a more positive lifestyle.

As a school we donated hundreds of packs of pasta and rice - along with many, many tinned foods. Our donations will enable the centre to provide those who they help with, amongst other things, hot, healthy meals.

School councillors from Years 5 and 6, represented the whole school by delivering, unpacking and storing the food donations to The Porch. The Porch Manager, Guy, was extremely grateful for the donations and asked our school councillors to pass on his heartfelt thanks to the rest of the school.
