Schools Eco Award
School Council have been working hard towards achieving a Schools Eco-Award. The first step was to review how eco-friendly our school is and each class reviewed a different area of school life. The three we scored the worst in - energy, marine and waste - are now the core of our action plan which we presented to the school in assembly.
In energy, we are planning to:
- appoint energy monitors in each class
- ask teachers to make some lessons more eco-friendly by doing them outside with no laptops
- hold an energy saving poster competition over half term; and
- create a solar panel committee.
In waste, we are planning to:
- discuss with our lunch providers how we can recycle more of the waste
- review our current recycling arrangements
- promote recycling through the Community Larder
- set up a clothes bank on the school site
- organise a trip to a re-cycling plant
In marine (plastic pollution), we are planning to:
- start litter-picking
- meet with our cleaning company to ask them to use more eco-friendly products
- organise a river litter pick
