St Swithuns CE Primary School

Schools Eco Award

School Council have been working hard towards achieving a Schools Eco-Award.  The first step was to review how eco-friendly our school is and each class reviewed a different area of school life.  The three we scored the worst in - energy, marine and waste - are now the core of our action plan which we presented to the school in assembly.

In energy, we are planning to:
  • appoint energy monitors in each class
  • ask teachers to make some lessons more eco-friendly by doing them outside with no laptops
  • hold an energy saving poster competition over half term; and
  • create a solar panel committee.

In waste, we are planning to:
  • discuss with our lunch providers how we can recycle more of the waste
  • review our current recycling arrangements
  • promote recycling through the Community Larder
  • set up a clothes bank on the school site
  • organise a trip to a re-cycling plant

In marine (plastic pollution), we are planning to:

  • start litter-picking
  • meet with our cleaning company to ask them to use more eco-friendly products
  • organise a river litter pick
