Radley Rocks visit Year 3

Year Three were incredibly lucky to have Dr Chris Bedford, Head of Geology from Radley College, and some Radley college students come to school to talk to us about rocks.

Oak and Willow classes impressed him with our knowledge of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. In return, he wowed us by asking us to create models of quartz molecules out of silicone and oxygen atoms. We learned that they are really strong as they have a hexagonal structure.
Our second activity was to look carefully at fossils and to take rubbings. As a geologist, Dr Bedford could date all of the fossils and answer our questions. We were very impressed.
