Noah's Pudding
We were delighted to welcome Iman Atah Ullah and Reverend Rob Glenny, together with Rana from the Dialogue Society, into school on Wednesday to talk to our year 5 and 6 children about inclusion and diversity using Noah's pudding, a Turkish tradition, as a focus for the presentation. Our thanks to our speakers for bringing this subject alive and to Mrs Gunaydin for making over 120 delicious puddings for the children and adults to enjoy! Below are some quotes from the children as to what they had learnt.
"I think the message of the story is that you don't need to all act the same to be in a community. Neither do you all need something external to bring you all together. You just need each other - if one person was left out of the community, it wouldn't be the same."
"The message of Noah's Pudding is that when you have found the right place, you will feel welcome and unique. Everyone will accept you for who you are and what you are like. You will feel at home!"
‘It’s really important as a community to be kind and thoughtful to each other.’
‘To me, inclusion means that you treat everyone the same and that, at the end of the day, we all have feelings and you should always treat others with respect.’
‘We’re all different and special in our own way.’
‘If I were a chickpea, I would want to be in Noah’s pudding because you get to be yourself.’
‘I learnt that Noah’s ark links Christianity and Islam; I learnt that the Christian story of Noah’s ark is similar to the Muslim version.’
‘If I were a chickpea, I would want to be in the pudding because I can be myself and get along with people in the community.’
